Red Gravenstein

Several instances are known where bud sports of the Gravenstein have originated which bear highly colored red fruit, but in no other respects are quite like the typical Gravenstein. Red Gravenstein, which originated in Nova Scotia, is bright red, less ribbed, more regular in shape and is generally a little bit smaller in size, but except in appearance is identical to Gravenstein. The Red Gravenstein has gained popularity because it combines the superior quality of the ordinary Gravenstein with the bright red color that people who judge the apple by appearance alone demand. Red Gravenstein is available late July through November.
